Director's Note:
The film was shot between 2020 and 2021, during a period of major political protests in Thailand.
Ratchadamnoen Avenue is a significant space, both in terms of the people's political history and as a royal ceremonial route. The meanings and values of this street overlap in many layers—acting as a space for the state, a space for the people, past and present, as well as differing beliefs, all coexisting in the same location.
During this same period, another replica of the Democracy Monument was being constructed elsewhere. I followed that construction while simultaneously spending time at the actual monument on Ratchadamnoen Avenue, surrounded by the masses expressing themselves politically.
My multiple visits to these areas allowed me to see both the construction site and the real space at the same time. It felt like standing within multiple layers of time and place, where these spaces constantly overlap.
What I encountered and found interesting in these spaces is the layering of reality, and how these overlapping meanings and values manifest themselves.
